Are these wines available at the LCBO?
For the most part, no. We import these wines to sell directly to restaurants and private customers by-the-case. Sometimes we submit these wines for a one-off release in LCBO Vintages, but for the most part these are private import consignment wines that can legally be sold by-the-case only. We represent the wines from Lifford Wine & Spirits and Tawse Winery, Redstone Winery, and Bachelder Wines locally from Niagara.

What are Consignment Wines?
The consignment program is what we call the “Specialty Services” department of the LCBO. It is the department where the LCBO controls and warehouses the wine imported by private agencies. We import wines from all around the world, and once they arrive in Ontario they live in the LCBO Consignment warehouse until we have orders for them. We then go down to the warehouse with our delivery trucks to pick them up and deliver them straight to you.

Can I do mix cases?
Yes! The LCBO relaxed it’s rules during the pandemic and began allowing agencies to ship mixed cases in 2020. At the moment we are offering a variety of curated selections in pre-mixed cases that evolve on a weekly basis, but this change is brand new and we’ll be adapting as we go. Here’s the current mixed-case offering from Lifford Wine.

Can I buy wines by the bottle?
Unfortunately no, import agencies are not allowed to sell any consignment wines by the bottle. It is only legal for agencies to sell full cases of wine and mixed cases of wine. But Capital Wine has partnered with Lollo restaurant in downtown Ottawa to start the Byward Wine Market, a full service bottle shop in the heart of the city. Here folks can shop in-person for exclusive wines by the bottle or order them online for pickup or delivery within Ottawa. So between Lifford Wines by the case or Byward Wine Market individual bottle shopping, we’ve got you covered for great wine!

I live or work in Quebec, can I still order?
Legally we can only invoice and deliver wine to Ontario addresses. So as long as you have an Ontario address that we can invoice and ship to, we can help you out.

Do you offer contact-less delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic?
