Staglin + Roederer Dinner at Atelier - Sept 13

This is as close to the best dream California dinner in Ottawa as I could ask for: Atelier hosting Napa Valley’s famed Staglin Family Vineyard for a special 5 course menu. And if that’s not luxurious enough, we’re mixing in an added bonus of some 15-20 year old back-vintage bottles of Roederer Estate’s top California estate Brut, L’Ermitage.

THE WINERY: Staglin has been one of the most famous ultra-premium cult Cabernets in Napa since the 1980’s. While many wineries have since chosen a path of more modern, sweeter and oakier styles of Cabernet, Staglin always remained true to the classic dry, refined, age-worthy, Bordeaux-esque wines that Napa became famous for in the early days. They sit on some of the most famous Napa Valley terroir, right next to Inglenook and beside the Bella Oaks vineyard that Heitz Cellars farmed for decades. And Amber Mihna from Staglin will be with us to guide us through several Cabernets and a Chardonnay going back almost 10 years to 2014 to showcase Staglin’s best. Truly an evening not to be missed for California fans.

THE RESTAURANT: After Marc Lepine worked in the kitchen at Chicago’s famous Alinea restaurant in 2007, he opened his own molecular gastronomy restaurant in Ottawa in 2008. Since then, Atelier has been one of Ottawa (and Canada’s) top restaurants. They’ve won Gold Medal Plates, held various positions on the Canada’s 100 Best restaurant’s list, and this year Marc Lepine was awarded Canada’s Most Innovative Chef in Canada’s 100 Best. Atelier currently focuses on a 40 course tasting menu but the team is taking a break on Wednesday with a special 5 course menu to pair with Staglin and the added bonus of Roederer California.

THE ADDED BONUS: Roederer Estate was started in the early 1980’s by the President of Champagne Louis Roederer in California’s Anderson Valley after recognizing the region’s cool climate and propensity for producing excellent Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Their Roederer Estate Brut NV is a California sparkling staple, but we’ve recently gotten our hands on some amazing back-vintages of their top cuvée, the Roederer Estate L’Ermitage from 2002, 2004, 2009 and will be featuring these wines throughout the dinner. Basically, L’Ermitage is to Roederer Estate California what Cristal is to Louis Roederer Champagne, their top reserve cuvée and it will be a beautiful series of wines to fill out an epic Best-Of California dinner with Staglin.
