Brunello Wine Dinner!

ATTENTION BRUNELLO LOVERS! On Monday May 30th we will be hosting Alessandro Bindocci from Il Poggione in Ottawa for an exclusive winemakers dinner at North & Navy. If you love Brunello, then you’re probably familiar with Il Poggione as one of the most famous producers in Montalcino, and to celebrate Alessandro’s visit, we’re pulling out all the stops for an all-out, decadent dinner by Chef Adam Vettorel paired with the whole range of Il Poggione’s Rossos and Brunellos.

Founded in 1890, they were one of the pioneering wineries of the Brunello consortium that eventually became a DOCG. Since then they’ve helped build the profile of Brunello around the world to much acclaim from both critics and consumers. The estate has been owned by the Lavinio Francheschi family since the late 1800’s when they first purchased the land to start a farm and planted the vineyards. And since then the Bindocci family has been working the land and making the wine along side them. Several generations of Lavinio’s and Bindocci’s have now been working together to produce these wines, with the children of both families growing up together and joining the family business over the generations. Alessandro is the current winemaker having taken over from his father a number of years ago. He keeps a keen eye on tradition, staying true to the historical nature of their estate’s style.

Just before the pandemic, the last wine dinner North & Navy hosted in February of 2020, was with Francesca Bindocci and Il Poggione. Francesca is Alessandro’s sister and she manages sales and export for the family. Now that the pandemic has slowed and things are opening back up, it is a wonderful coincidence (serendipity, even) that Il Poggione will be the first wine dinner North & Navy hosts again with Alessandro.

So if you are free on Monday evening, or have plans that can be changed, please consider joining us for this intimate 4 course meal with Alessandro and his beautiful wines. It will be upstairs in the private dining room around the long harvest table in a fun communal setting. Good times guaranteed. Seating is very limited, so please reserve your place ASAP.
